Indonesian police say they have arrested 57 people in Papua after bloody clashes with protesters demanding the closure of a huge US mine.
They say the death toll has risen to five with the death of a man of head injuries in Jayapura's main hospital and tensions in the capital remain high. Witnesses say sporadic gunfire has been heard in the streets of the city following Thursday's riot in which three police and an air force officer were beaten to death. Fifteen people, including six police are being treated for gunshot wounds and head injuries. ABC Asia Pacific TV / Radio Australia |
